I just had about a day and change downtime waiting for a sketch approval and thought I'd take the opportunity to do some fan art.
This creature is of one of the twin "vices" from my buddy Coro Kaufman's epic graphic novel entitled Transient.

I could - and have - probably blow several metric tons of smoke up Coro's ass about what an incredible achievement this work is, and on more than simply an artistic level.
Go take a peak and see for yourself what I'm talking about if you haven't already: [link]

I really, really enjoyed working on this creature for many reasons - a lot of them personal - but mostly because I just love this book.

Thanks for coming by the gallery

Best wishes,
Brad

I love Transient Man and I love your work, WHAT ARE THE ODDS!? Can you get Coro to reduce the cost of shipping to the UK? I want the book and the T-shirt to show off but shipping price is mental.

dude why wont you paint something from the bible, how about goliath or some battle scene or king David on his throne... or something from the NT Jesus in his ministry?... why only demons and Evil stuff?

Who says I haven't?

But that's a good question.
I've always painted dark, evil things. It's what naturally comes out of me.
You could say it's how God made me.

When I see grotesque, dark or perhaps evil things created by people, I see talent and vision on loan from God ( if it's well done that is), not the glorification of evil.

I think it would be great to give glory to our lord by using the talents he gave us but do we give him glory when we draw demons and monsters? or do we give glory to the evil one? I myself plan to do some biblical paintings in the near future, I am just wondering because I myself love to draw dragons and sometime not very godly characters which I would not show to people from my church. so if I wont show it to them than its probably not something I should be drawing as much. it's like some one watches porn and says it's OK to watch porn but you wont watch porn with your parents right? or with your little sister?

Just some thoughts I had.

I think your analogy with porn is way off.
You're confusing result with intent.

The answer is no. We do not give glory to darkness by depicting evil.
The bible depicts evil vividly, is that an evil document?
Answer: no.

The very fact that we are born with the gift to draw, or sing or perform amazing feats of athleticism or engineering is in itself evidence of God in my opinion.

The difference between creating things that look evil and real spiritual darkness is stark and unmistakable, I know this from experience.

Most of the time I'm illustrating professionally to support my family, in the case of this latest work it was created as a gift for a friend.
I'd say using my talents to support my family and creating a gift of art for a friend are fairly wholesome and good natured acts, wouldnt you?

If I turned around and illustrated an inverted cross with all kinds of other nasty stuff in there to intentionally offend God or Christ with that intent in mind - then we're talking the realm of the diabolical.

But drawing a few gross monsters and some half-naked women?
Sorry man, I don't see it.

Also, I personally don't think God or Christ is that thin-skinned or petty to get offended by art. That's us, that's what we do.
I would also suggest that maybe you take a look at your language for a moment, what you "should" be drawing is up to you, not your church. What you love to draw are dragons and maybe some characters that your church might not like.

So what?

Go to Christ directly, ask him. Don't rely on man for answers or approval or guidance.
Your relationship with God and Christ is yours, not theirs.

Be safe,
-B

I see what you mean, being able to provide for your family with your art is very important and that is what I am trying to achieve and I have been asking myself how far will I really allow myself to go, will I take any job just to make it? but here's another thought: if Christ was sitting next to you and watching you paint half naked lustful women you think he would smile and say good job you are glorifying me by painting this or would he be disappointed? I am just as guilty and I was really thinking lately if what I do really brings him glory or is it just what the world wants to see, I try to make the world like my art so much that I forgot that the lord will take care of me eventually if I let him and trust him enough to do so and try to actually make art that is more godly.

You are the only artist out there that I know about is a believer, most of the other guys are either Atheists or agnostic so you understand what I mean, these are just thoughts I had in my mind for the past few years, where do we cross the line and do we really bring people to Christ with our art which is,after all the most important thing, this world is about to end but our eternity is about to begin. so how would we like to enter it as some one who did good with our talents and saved people or just did what the world wanted us to do?

Thanks for replying bro I appreciate you're thoughts.

No problem.

I think we simply differ on what glorifying Christ and God means.

As for Christ's will for you? I don't know.
Just ask, it'll be revealed.

I know that for me personally I ask him to deliver me from the defects in my character that keep me from his will, to make me into the man he would have me be, the man that my family needs me to be.
I ask for this everyday.
And that's all I ask for.

Ever since I started doing it my life has only flourished, so I have to assume that I'm doing something right.

Just a couple side notes:

There are a lot of guys in the business who are believers, I've spoken to several privately - so you're far from alone.
And half naked lustful women is what starts all the fuss about making babies.
I can say with absolute confidence that God likes it when babies get made.

Take care

it is encouraging to hear that there are more believers in the industry as I feel I am being drowned in a world of art that does not even recognize who gave us art and the ability to create it at the first place and not thankful to any one but themselves and that is very discouraging for me.
I just wish more artist believers would give credit to god these days... its like recognizing God's hand in everything we do or even mentioning his name is not cool or it's superstitious and old school or whatever, but today is more important than ever to share god's word with any one we can, Christ calls us to do so.

God bless
