Alrighty, i've finally caved in.

As a lot of you know ive had this hangup about posting WIP's and concept pieces.

Hang-up as in I dont want to post them, heh!

Personally id rather not see someones process; I think it ruins the magic and mystery. I like to look at someones art and ask "how the hell does he or she do that?", and then struggle to figure it out for myself.

In that struggle great things can sometimes happen, if you allow yourself to be frustrated.

But enough of my soapbox sermoning!

Im extremely fortunate to have others interested in what I do and I frequently get asked about my process. So ive gone ahead and slapped together this "doodlebomb", so you can get some ideas about what goes on behind the scenes.
Most of these will more than likely never be completed because there wasnt enough of a story for me to stay interested, or were simply practices and brainstorms.

Ive numbered them in case anyone wanted to know about a specific title. I also numbered them so people can vote on which is thier favorite, if one is a clear winner ill finish it.

Please keep in mind that these are all works in progress, in a lot of cases anatomy and backgrounds havent been finalized, so theres probably a ton of mistakes.
Most of these took me about 3 hours to do, the bulk of my work takes place after the sketch.

Thanks so much for all the great comments and interest, it really means a lot to me.
All the best to you all.

Titles:

1) The Stranger
2) Watery Grave
3) Oathbearer
4) Untitled Conan the Barbarian concept
5) Sorceress concept
6) Slum
7) Future Ruin
8) Kingdom of Darkness
9) Nightstalker
10) Enemy of the State
11) Chase
12) Hubba Hubba
13) Mirror
14) Untitled Nude
15) "They said to never come down here you know"
16) "Timmy!...NO!"
17) The Accursed of Hun-Nal-Ye
18) Where Dead Gods Dream
19) Shamanfire
20) "Then you will die"

10 is very Frazetta.
16 and 19 are the best ones, in my humble opinion.
How do you manage to paint darkness so vivid?

I just noticed, #3 looks strikingly similar to Dimentio from Rich Corben's Mutant World?

I can definitely tell that he's influenced you most. I've probably compared you to Corben at least 10 times in other comments I've made. :P

For good reason, he's one of the most interesting and imaginative comic book artists out there! And easily one of the best at coming up with dramatic lighting.

The way you use light in your work to separate it from the normal scenes in life to create extraodinary art astounds me. I love all of these pieces...but I think I have a slight obsession with nice lighting, anyway.

One day I'll learn how to do it myself. ;)

Thanks for posting this! You have a really good sense of lighting. I really appreciate being able to see how others do things; I often feel isolated from the art scene and it's nice to share thoughts and process from time to time.

they're greyscale but they're also amazing conceptually and in execution. i really wish i had his grasp of color and consistent shading. you should give his stuff a look. dunno if you're into the whole scifi/surreal, though. it's interesting for def either way. :)

Wow, I look at this, and the first thing that crosses my mind is - this person must have spent HOURS at the grindstone. Skill born out of dedication and hunger, huge respect.

Really enjoyed looking at the process. Loved 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9. Oh, and the sculpting on 3 and 14 are crazy as well. Hell... I'm head over heels for most of them.

One tiny little crit would be that all your surfaces look similar; as in, like shiny metal, or plastic. Even the skin looks glossy. Then again, that characterizes most of your art. Feel free to ignore that.

Again, crazy, crazy work.

I actually have dozens and dozens of stuff like this but no time to slap it together.
I spend a lot of time drawing, so its definately born out of hunger, dedication and most of all love.

#5 deserves some finishing !! :P

But anyways, I love it all, you can put such intensity and mood/atmosphere to your art, it's really incredible.

You're the kind of artist that, when you see their art, you're like " Even if I spent my life working hard on art, I doubt I'd reach that level " .. awesome.
