Ok, so heres a creature concept update, with a few notes for anyone who may care.
Gone is the squid-puss and skeletal changes to the skull, it was simply too exotic. Without giving too much away: its essential to the story that the main antagonist have strong human qualities, so while I liked the idea of the creature essentially being my monster from "Containment Breach Sub-Level 5" it just wasnt "right". Im going to go ahead and keep up the old ideas; maybe someone may find it useful/entertaining to see the twists and turns that I come across during developing an idea; I think its important to play when your exploring ideas and give yourself the room and freedom to create crap instead of miticulously thinking and rethinking through every line.
You can see all the various combinations I fought with along the lower and right borders of the piece before deciding on the final creature.
While some of you may find the new design to be too conservative, please understand the approach im taking is going to more reliant on using dramatic lighting, camera angles, facial expression and body language to deliver the impact im looking for as opposed to over-the-top design-sense. A lot of my motivation for creating this graphic novel comes from my adoration for my favorite filmakers like early Ridley Scott and 80's era John Carpenter.
Again, this is just a rough ill use as a guide for the final render, which in turn will be a master for reference since none of these creatures or characters exist.
I cant thank you all enough for the interest, enthusiasm and commentary - its always very inspiring for me.
God Bless, Brad
PS - you may have to reduce your browser magnification to 75-50% to see it all
what a terrifying and intriguing character! I think the fact he maintains the humanistic qualities is what makes him so threatening, because if the design deviates too far it's almost like we as humans can detach ourselves from it. I can't wait to see where this all goes!
and, Fantastic art of course.
Really great rendition, and man that is scary like hell. ina good way of course
